Need to think hard … or hardly think

When subtleties of life are overpowered, it usually leaves a feeling of dejection.

At no point of time a writer’s voice is less challenged than the time when the mind is in introspection. A deep thinking may be, or be with an urge to come out with a dialogue between the soul and the self, deep within.

Usually the time frame is not something I worry about. There’s no deadline of thoughts, in deep thinking, if ever it was the prerogative of an idle mind. It can be months, years or even decades of soul-searching looking for that conscious reason to explore.

Is there an end to exploring the niceties of nature? Is there some conclusion in exploring the human mind?

There is this need to continue, and the sense of continuity brings forth a feeling of exploration … a sense of continuum. I am no writer, but my thoughts still flow in that direction.

A nice breeze sometimes forces itself into my living room. The curtains get ruffled, and the freshness of purity seeps in for a trivial moment.

My soul feels blessed, by nature, at least. For some tormented minds, blessing has a literal meaning … naturally, I feel it. To that end, the soothing breeze breathes continuity into my thoughts … albeit with some freshness.

I see compatriots get into print, some ideas half-cooked, others craving for attention. Writing nowadays has become a ‘profession’, I hated that word when it compelled me to a workplace with defined dictum of decency and scrutiny. A profession can’t always be the sanctity of work, these days the lure of the penny makes it attractive.

Only day before yesterday, I was breathing through some pages in one corner of the Crossword store. I fathomed through the ordeals of Anne Frank, some moments in Gandhi’s colossal work in My Experiments with Truth. They still seemed so real, the content so ideally merged with the continuum of thought.

Writers are not born, they are gifted with the art of expressing through written words.

May be.

On another aisle, contemporary creations desperately asking for a ‘peep out’. Mostly bloggers, some are not even a year or two old, writing their stories. The tantalizing, salacious, transparent real life stories of our times.

Over these years, I have developed a sense not to criticize any writing. All writing is normal, I feel, while some are productive.

If a Crossword can have the twain meet, why does the society deprive to think? I speak to myself … where has the soul in writing gone? Or is it very much there, hidden for people like me to find out. They play hide and seek, like those immortal pages from the holocaust days … straight from the pens of Anne Frank.

hey....
i believe too much introspection often leaves one puzzled...but maybe it's just me eternally unsure...you mention about the quality of books published these days...i agree with you on that...i guess these days the written world is doing what the hindi news channels do...attracting attention through cheap thrills...writing these days is about make some quick bucks and gather a little fame....on the brighter side books are getting some much needed attention....

yes Idle Mind ...there is no time frame for thoughts...felt as if you 've expressed my heart...
nobody can conclude the human mind...no body can judge the thoughts...we always in a way to somewhere ...but where...sometime i also felt that writing is not valuable ...but the main thing is the satisfaction i feel...so friend express...i'm always there to get inspiration from your write ups...:)

i agree with oxymoron .. writing just for the sake of it is no writing at all ... more so nowadays writing is associated with fame ... an anne frank dint write her diary thinking it wud be published someday ...and so the beauty or the sanctity of it remains unblemished till this day ...

@ oxymoron - I agree, on a positive note there is a lot more one can experiment with writing today. Glad to see you after a while.

@ swapnanjali - Expression is the dharma of a person who wants to write, and in case that is creative, it adds to the content.

@ vicious - I took the example of Anne Frank or Gandhi 'coz they were not known as writers. Still they are regarded for their writing today ... more so for the depth of their content.

Ah! A writing with some thoughts that I have been craving to read for a long time. It had to come from you. Thank you.

For me writing is an art. Be it writing a post for my blog, writing a comment or an email to a colleague at work or to a cousin. I always try to write from my soul. I do not consider myself a writer, at least not yet, but I do aspire to be one.

The soul in writing. Indeed, where has it gone? It is still there, but I guess it is only a select few who get to experience it. The publishers are looking for best sellers -- the spicy, action packed, controversial writings that could earn a quick buck. Every other person with a controversial story to tell has become a writer and has a best selling book! The soul in writing has become a wandering spirit!

A thought provoking post, I must say. And this post does have a lot of soul. Perhaps, the soul is confined to the blogs these days!

I'm sorry, but I could not understand the second part of this post starting from the point where your compatriots went into print. I'm sure there was a continuity of thought, but perhaps not all of it could make it into this writing in a coherent manner.

However, I loved the first part. I could envision your thoughts flowing out of your mind right across the lovely landscape of your page. I wish you a continuous flow of cool, soothing breeze that will carry your thoughts to us.

@ Vittaldas - a soulful comment indeed! I see that you are sensing the same discontent as I do from the way print is getting too money-oriented.

@ Sonia - thanks for the visit. There is no second part though, it's just that my thoughts got a mixed reaction when I saw some of my co-bloggers in print. Those books in Crossword just show that our writing has turned into a way of making fast money. I don't blame them, but just feel they may not be productive this way.

Hope I made some sense.

a writer needs his readers, i dont think writers are too concerned with money... what they crave is attention, every talent needs that..

as is the case with music these days. if you ask me about what i had been reading lately, i wouldnt remember most of the names of those books, obviously they were very much forgettable.
if writing is a compelling need more than an edeavour, i think it breathes and progresses with its soul intact.
IM, give me the names of five most pathetic books, fiction/non-fiction you wished youd never bought and read.

@ Uncommon Sense - agree, but then 'attention' is not free, there's a money angle to it. A writer has pockets filled, if there's attention.

@ Tongue Trip - so glad to see you after a while. Yes, the ones that are read and remembered are usually the good ones, but I am too choosy in selecting a book to read. After a while, I am reading Maupassant these days.

Five most pathetic books? probably none remembers that!

the first thing... title of this post-

idle ideas prooves very well..

as a writer, as a blogger, i dont want to write anything about myself, or any personal containt, but the silent inspiration or base of any poem or story may contain some weight of my life, sometimes if we want to create a new product, we have to imagine nicely, but the imanigation- is comes from dreams,,

"Over these years, I have developed a sense not to criticize any writing. All writing is normal, I feel, while some are productive." - ye, aisa kabhi kabhi me bhi sochta hun.. kabhi kabhi productivity khud b khud aane lagti hai dimag me, to kabhi kabhi sirf normal thoughts hi likhte rahene ka mood..

khair.. nice subject, apun ko to achha laga padhne ko.. ku6 ku6 sochta hai :P

Nowadays anyone with a way with words fancies himself a writer.. The books that comes out now is a one time read and similar to another one.. I find it difficult to distinguish between the various titles coing out today.. I have been brought up on the staple diets of authors like ayn rand, jeffrey archer and the likes.. that may be the reason I am biased against the authors of today
